West Nile Virus

A juvenile female Cooper's Hawk was discovered to have a West Nile Virus infection.
Notice the different sized pupils in each picture.  She was very unstable on her feet and
blind when we picked her up.  She was hand-fed for several days and treated with
anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks.

She regained vision in her left eye after three days and her right eye around day 25.  She
flew well in a flight pen, could catch live prey there and then went through a 7-day "fitness
program" to build up her strength.  She was subsequently released.
